A large team from COMAST attended the City of Sunderland national qualifier with the aim of gaining more long course experience in preparation for future targeted meets. The meet was selected as it provided our swimmers with the opportunity to experience a new environment along with racing different teams providing more learning outcomes.
It was a fantastic weekend with everyone producing excellent performances and impressively coming away with sixty five top three finishes helping the club to finishing fifth overall. Our medal winners were:
Afia Minhas, Nathan Clare, Oliver Taylor, Olivia Clare, Meadow Dronsfield, Adam Jones, Alisdair Stout, Reuben Rowbotham- Keating, Holly Rowlinson, Joshua Walker, Toby Ranson, Ben Haughton, Alex Campbell, Kirston Dronsfield, Jessica Smith and Olivia Dykes.
A special mention goes to Kirsten Dronsfield who set a new meet records in the girls 13 years 50m free with a new best time of 28.05.
The coaching team were very pleased with the effort, attitude and with the swimmers showing excellent responsibility managing themselves over the three day meet. This is something which is important for their development with more swimmers qualifying for nationals and international events in which are spread over up to six days.
For many of the swimmers the meet was the first chance to post times within the national qualification window as well for others being their last chance to qualify for the North West regionals. It was very pleasing to see that everyone’s commitment to their training showing the fruits with some fantastic results but more so improvement in stroke and skills.
Big thank you to the parents for being a constant presence supporting the team over the weekend.
