Harpurhey regain Top Team Award

Rising Stars February 2018

Harpurhey regained their top Club title over Hough End in the City of Manchester Rising Stars gala by winning the first Rising Stars event of 2018. A pattern seems to be appearing with the title alternating between the two clubs.

The event took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre on Saturday 17th February with the Manchester Community Clubs, Broadway, Harpurhey, Wythenshawe, City of Manchester Icebergs, COMAST Hough End and the COMAST Academy all entering teams to compete for the winner’s trophy. The gala gives young swimmers a chance to participate in a competitive environment.

Events include 50m of Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley, together two 4x50m Freestyle team relays.

Hough End shouldn’t be too disappointed though as their relay squad of Olivia Bartoli, Kate Murphy, Dominic Seymour and Daniel Lyons went on to win the ‘A’ Relay trophy.

The event is organised and officiated by volunteers from the City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, with swimmers from the senior squads providing the timekeeping.

Tom Paine was on hand to present the Trophies to the winning teams. Tom is a member of the Beacon Squad and has represented COMAST in events across the UK and Europe and will shortly be competing in the British Championships in Edinburgh.

The next Rising Stars gala will take place on Saturday 16th June 2018. See you all there!
