Hough End regain the Rising Stars Top Team Trophy
After three successive victories for Harpurhey, Hough End finally regained the top team trophy at the City of Manchester Rising Stars gala by winning the November event, in what was a very close final score of 347 points to 330.
The event took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre on Saturday 24th November. Manchester Community Clubs, Broadway, Harpurhey, Wythenshawe, City of Manchester Icebergs, COMAST Hough End and the COMAST Academy all entered teams to compete for the winner’s trophy. The gala gives young swimmers a chance to participate in a competitive environment.
This event saw the swimmers compete in the 50m pool, many for the first time, with events including 50m of Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke, together with Team Medley and Freestyle relays to finish the evening.
Harpurhey did, however, have some success by retaining the Freestyle Relay trophy. Their team of Allan Adetula, John Kennedy, Ufumwen Airomwanbor and Princes Nana Djomi, clocked a time of 2:29.82 with Hough End in second in 2:35.61. The City of Manchester Academy landing third in a time of 2:40.04
The Team Medley Relay was again won by Harpurhey with Hough End and the City of Manchester Academy repeating their second and third placed finishes.
The event is organised and officiated by volunteers from the City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, with swimmers from the senior squads providing the timekeeping.
National and International COMAST Beacon Swimmer Jared Armstrong was on hand to present the trophies.
The next Rising Stars gala will take place on Saturday 16th February 2019, see you all there!
