Harpurhey do the “hat-trick” at the Rising Stars

Harpurhey made it a “hat-trick” of wins to retain their title of top club in the City of Manchester, winning the latest Rising Stars gala on Saturday 24th September.

City of Manchester Hough End managed to prevent a Harpurhey clean sweep by winning in the mixed 50m Freestyle Relay trophy, thanks to their team of Zakaria Elbey, Ambar Boughton, Dominic Seymour and Rosa Hollingsworth.

As always, the event took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre with well over 100 swimmers in attendance from the Manchester Community Clubs of Broadway, Harpurhey, Wythenshawe, City of Manchester Icebergs, COMAST Hough End and the COMAST Academy.

The gala gives young swimmers a chance to participate in a competitive environment, often for the first time. The swimmers raced in the 50m events of Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke together with the 100m Individual Medley and 4x50m Freestyle team relays.

The event is organised and officiated by volunteers from the City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, with swimmers from their senior squads providing the timekeeping and assisting with marshaling.

New Beacon Squad swimmer Chloe Golding, who has represented GB at the European Junior Championships and is the current national champion for her age group 100m Backstroke, presented the trophies and congratulated the swimmers.

The next Rising Stars gala will take place on Saturday 12th November. See you all there!
