Harpurhey regain their title at the Rising Stars gala

After three consecutive wins by Hough End, Harpurhey regained their title of top club in the City of Manchester, winning the September edition of the Rising Stars gala. The event took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre on Saturday 30th September with the Manchester Community Clubs, Broadway, Harpurhey, Wythenshawe, City of Manchester Icebergs, COMAST Hough End and the COMAST Academy all entering teams to compete for the winner’s trophy. The gala gives young swimmers a chance to participate in a competitive environment.

The swimmers raced in the 50m events of Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke together with the 100m Individual Medley and 4x50m Freestyle team relays.

The Club relay trophy went to City of Manchester Icebergs whose team of Bobby Hulme, Sydney Burgess, Danial Bafi and Leah Yohannes just edged out Harpurhey.

The event is organised and officiated by volunteers from the City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, with swimmers from the senior squads providing the timekeeping.

Beacon Squad swimmer Ashley Hogg, who this year won the overall national Great Swim Open Water series and represented Manchester in the Wuhan, China International Yangtze River Swimming Event, handed out the medals and congratulated the swimmers.

The next Rising Stars gala will take place on Saturday 25th November. See you all there!
