On Saturday 18th June COMAST’s Hough End squad celebrated it’s 1-year anniversary. The club, who held its first training session during the Leisure Centre’s inaugural week, joined in with pool operator GLL’s planned festivities. The centre planned a classic sports day, bouncy castle, squash tournament, face painting and of course, a birthday cake!
On the playing fields outside the leisure centre the swimmers and their Head Coach Vinnie Camilleri played rounders, relay games, dodge ball and wheel barrow races. Meanwhile in the pool, Manchester Diving Group offered free taster sessions, all of our swimmers had a go and then pushed Vinnie in the pool so he could have a go too!!
To commemorate the first birthday of the club some of the swimmers got together and made some lovely backstroke flags. COMAST Hough End was started to be able to offer to the local Mancunian community a club to bridge the gap between the ASA swimming lesson pathway and competitive swimming in a relaxed, fun environment. The sessions work to improve stroke technique and competitive skills such as dives, starts and turns.
The squad compete regularly in Rising Stars, a gala held at Manchester Aquatics Centre for all swim teams within the City of Manchester, and has come second to the reigning champions Harpurhey at the last two meets by only a few points.
The team are already working towards September’s meet where they hope to claim their first victory….watch this space!
